Coral, a hawksbill sea turtle sponsored by the Four Seasons Resort Nevis, was released to great fan fare on August 3. Here's a great video footage of her release in Nevis, West Indies.

Bubbles Journey to the Water Continued

Bubbles is half way down the beach and making her way to the water. Step by lumbering step she continues until at last, with the crowd going wild, she ducks below a wave and disappears into the welcoming sea. Home again, she takes a few deep breaths before disappearing from view for the last time to this group of sea turtle fans and conservationists. We can all watch her journey online now through the website www.tourdeturtles.org. You can track her progress and watch to see if she comes back to visit her devoted followers in Brevard County. The moment we all are waiting for. Bubbles starts her journey down the sand to the water. The crowd is cheering and hooting encouraging her on her way. The transmitter is firmly attached and apparently un-noticed by this giant of a Loggerhead Sea Turtle. The collection of data and her part in the 2011 Tour de Turtles is now underway!

Hundreds of people came to the beach to send Bubbles on her bubbly way! Thanks to all who came and supported the event. And thanks to all who could not make it but have helped raise awareness and support for sea turtles.

Satellite Attachment Process

In an efforts to educate the general public about sea turtle conservation, you can now watch scientists attach a satellite transmitter on Belle o' Brevard. Satellite transmitters help scientists determine the migratory patterns of sea turtles to better determine effective conservation methods.

Tour de Turtles Introduction

Tour de Turtles is a fun, educational journey through the science, research and geography of sea turtle migration using satellite telemetry. Created by Caribbean Conservation Corporation, this event follows the marathon migration of eight sea turtles from their nesting beaches to their foraging grounds. Follow along to find out how long it takes each sea turtle to complete a marathon migration of 2,620 km (1,628 miles). Each turtle will be swimming for a cause to raise awareness about a specific threat to sea turtles. You can get involved by supporting a turtle to help raise awareness about their cause.
